Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her after the town she grew up in. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's father was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. Ryder is the youngest sister of Uria who is half-sister to Jubal & Sunyata. Ryder's parents moved her along with her siblings to Mendocino County California when Ryder reached seven. In Mendocino County, they did not have electricity. Ryder would read extensively due to the lack of television. Ryder started taking acting classes at American Conservatory Theatre when she was 12 years old. Lucas, a 1986 film that she was in, was her debut major character. Ryder was 15 when she got it. Ryder was bullied throughout high school. Her hope was that acting could bring change. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. However, she kept working towards her goals. Her breakthrough occurred in the year 1988, when Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder was able to continue her successful performances in several movies. In 1993 she received two nominations for Academy Awards. One of was for her performance in The Age of Innocence.
